Srinagar: The annual report of separatist faction Hurriyat (M), headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has alleged state government of inflicting havoc through the unabated use of pellet guns during the protests this year and termed 2016 as the “Epidemic of Dead Eyes”.

S.P. Singh Telangana's new Chief Secretary

Hyderabad : Shekhar Prasad Singh on Sunday assumed charge as the new Chief Secretary of Telangana.

He succeeded K. Pradeep Chandra, who retired from service on reaching superannuation.

Earlier in the day the state government issued orders appointing Singh as the new Chief Secretary.

Prior to this appointment, Singh was serving as the Special Chief Secretary, Panchayat Raj department.

His appointment came as no extension was given to Pradeep Chandra, who had assumed office a month ago.

Singh belongs to 1983 batch of Indian Administrative Service.

Solapur/Bhopal: Mahmooda Bi, mother of Khalid Muchale, one of the eight under-trial prisoners encountered on October 31, has rejected all the three ongoing state investigations in the case and has petitioned for an independent probe at the Jabalpur High Court.

'Demonetisation will result in behavioural change'

Mumbai : Demonetisation of high value currency will bring "a behavioural change" in the economy and the pain due to cash crunch will be a non-event by 2018, said Mohnish Pabrai, Managing Partner at Pabrai Investment Funds and Dhandho Holdings.

"Indians will adapt to an economy with scarcity of cash and demonetisation will result in a behavioural change.

"There will be a segment of the population that will realise that it is better to play within the system," he said.

This would have huge positive impact in the long run, he said in an interview with BTVi.


President greets nation on New Year's Eve

New Delhi : President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday greeted the nation on the eve of New Year and appealed to the people to "unite to build an India of our dreams".

"On the occasion of New Year, I extend my warmest greetings and best wishes to all my countrymen in India and abroad," Mukherjee said in a statement.

"May the New Year bring progress and prosperity to our glorious nation," he said.

"Let us unite to build an India of our dreams and pledge to make our beautiful country clean and pollution free," Mukherjee added.


Amar Singh urges SP workers to back Mulayam

New Delhi : Blamed for the onging infighting in the Samajwadi Party (SP), its leader Amar Singh on Saturday dubbed the recent developments as "very unfortunate" and urged his supporters to back party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

"Whatever is happening in the Samajwadi Party is very unfortunate. I appeal to party members to stand with Neta ji (Mulayam Singh)," he said.

The SP leader quipped: "Ram Chandra keh gaye Siya se aisa Kalyug aayega, beta karega raj bechara baap jungal jayega."
