How often do you hear a recitation of the Quran and Sanskrit classes being held in the same education centre? Now, let us assume that this happened somewhere...but what are the chances of both these activities being supervised by the same person, who is a devout Muslim? Some will see the woman in question, Rasiya Mohammedkutty, as a person trying to break stereotypes, but according to her, there are no stereotypes to be broken here; it is a simple matter of providing knowledge to all because knowledge is power.

Women managed polling stations in every constituency: EC

New Delhi : In a bid to ensure more participation of women in the electoral process, the Election Commission on Wednesday said that it has decided to make special arrangements in form of "all women managed polling stations" in the five states where assembly elections are to be held.

Pune doctor's 'Save Girl Child' campaign completes five years

Pune : A unique initiative by Pune gynaecologist Ganesh Rakh to ‘Save Girl Child by waiving off all medical bills for a female child birth turned five years old on Tuesday and has become a national campaign.

Rakh said the scheme was launched on a modest scale at his hospital on January 3, 2012 on the birthday of social reformer Savitribai Jyotiba Phule.

Government to set up world class institutes for minorities: Naqvi

New Delhi : Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Thursday said that his ministry will establish world class educational institutions for the students belonging to minority communities.

Chairing a meeting of general body of Maulana Azad Education Foundation here, he said that the institutions would provide education in subjects such as modern and traditional medicine, engineering etc besides other job-oriented courses.

Daughter in law of Millat Council supremo moves to court against harassment, dowry demands

Clergyman donates kidney to Muslim woman in Kerala

Kochi : A clergyman in Kerala has donated his kidney to a Muslim woman who was suffering from kidney ailments for the last four years and saved her life, hospital authorities said on Wednesday.

The 39-year-old Priest Shibu Kuttiparichel of Cheengery St. Mary's Jacobite Syrian Church in Wayanad district, donated one of his kidneys to the 29-year-old woman.

The kidney was harvested and transplanted into Kairunnissa at a private hospital here.

Kairunnissa hails from Thrissur and was selected as the recipient from others registered with the Kidney Federation of India.
