New Delhi : Kashmir is on the boil; the "Azadi" chant reverberates from every corner; normal life is at a halt. A young, educated, career-oriented woman's life gets entangled amidst all this. The result is Nayeema Mahjoor's debut book "Lost in Terror" (Penguin, Rs 299, pp 305).

There have been many books depicting the Kashmir issue from a man's perspective but hardly any from the women's point of view -- on their suffering and misery. And this is why Mahjoor, Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir State Commission for Women, decided to write the book.

PMO, LG not serious about women's safety: Kejriwal

New Delhi : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday accused the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and Lt Governor Najeeb Jung of doing politics over women's safety in Delhi.

Kejriwal's remarks followed media reports about the rape of a young woman in a car here.

"LG and PMO doing politics with women safety in Delhi. LG stopped salaries of all employees in DCW (Delhi Commission for Women). Police becomes corrupt and ineffective under them," Kejriwal tweeted.

President Mukherjee emphasises women empowerment

New Delhi : President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday stressed the necessity of educating women, providing them economic independence, and legal rights and social awareness for their empowerment.

The President expressed his views while meeting a delegation from Young FICCI Ladies Organisation (YFLO) at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Speaking on the occasion, Mukherjee congratulated the YFLO for its enthusiasm and encouragement to an important cause and said "a society which cannot respect women cannot be called a civilised society".

Bhopal : Slamming Narendra Modi over demonetisation, former MP and All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) Vice President Subhashini Ali said the Prime Minister is "guilty of picking women's pockets".
